Celebrating 23 Years: 1988-2011
In the late 1980s, community visionaries recognized the need for an organization that could help individuals navigate the challenges associated with home buying and ownership. They envisioned an organization driven not by profit, but by a mission to increase homeownership, particularly among the underserved.
These visionaries created the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP) in 1988. Established as a nonprofit organization, INHP was charged with developing strategies to address the housing needs of low- and moderate-income citizens.
INHP studied the housing environment in Indianapolis, identified the most pressing housing needs, and developed programs and services to meet those needs. Over the years, INHP has refined those programs and services and created new ones to continue to meet the community's housing needs.
INHP has enjoyed tremendous success since opening two decades ago. Thousands of people have received financial coaching and budgeting assistance, graduated from our education programs, secured mortgages from us or one of our lending partners, and received some type of post-purchase help.
To achieve this kind of success, INHP works with local lending institutions, community development corporations, philanthropic organizations, and individual home buyers. Thanks to their cooperation, dedication and commitment, INHP has evolved into an inspiring example of how government, business, community partners, and families can work together to achieve positive change.
The mission of INHP is to increase safe, decent, affordable housing opportunities that foster healthy, viable neighborhoods.
